School events 2026
The events I offer are particularly suitable for Key Stage 2 (age 7-11) and would be very relevant for children studying any of the following: Mary Anning, rocks and fossils, dinosaurs and ancient sea creatures such as ichthyosaurs and ammonites. I also talk about historical fiction and offer author tips and exercises for boosting story ideas as well as creative writing workshops.
A one-hour in person talk about Snakestone and all things related to Mary Anning, a short reading and Q&A - £150 (plus travel expenses)
This interactive talk covers Mary Anning's life and childhood; what it was like living in the early nineteenth century and how our knowledge of science differed then; fossils, dinosaurs, ichthyosaurs, ammonites, and extinction events; and an explanation of historical fiction and tips/exercises for story ideas and writing creatively.
A two-hour in person school visit - one hour author talk as above, plus one hour creative writing workshop on crafting a good story - £300 (plus travel expenses)
Workshops suitable for small groups of up to 30 children. Children will need paper and a pen and be ready to do some writing and to feed back their ideas!
I am happy to discuss other ways to structure a school visit. Please use the contact form or the following email address to get in touch:
TESTIMONIAL - World Book Week 2026
Emma Bayley's visit to Queens Park Primary School during World Book Week was an absolute highlight for our pupils. Her presentation about her new book Snakestone, inpired by the life and discoveries of Mary Anning, captivated every child in the room. Emma brought the world of dinosaurs to life with enthusiasm, sparking curiosity and excitement from the very first moment.
She spoke about her writing process giving our young readers and aspiring writers a rare glimpse into the creative journey behind a book. The children were completely engaged, asking thoughtful questions and leaving the session buzzing with inspiration.
Emma's passion and ability to connect with pupils of all ages made her visit truly memorable. We are incredibly grateful for the time she spent with us and for the encouragement she offered our budding storytellers.
